A Honeymoon in St. Petersburg

Our trip to St. Petersburg was a honeymoon delayed for three months, and a dream delayed longer than that.

We were married on June 7, 2003, but postponed the trip till we made a 1200-mile cross-country move and got Jon, Regina’s son, settled in at college.

Tradition in St. Petersburg has it that newlyweds have their picture taken in front of Lenin's statue. Well, when in Russia...

St. Petersburg is a city we’d both wanted to visit for a long time because of its long and fascinating history, and because of its intriguing mix of uniquely Russian and European culture. If you’ve ever read “Nicholas and Alexandra” you’ll understand.

We have a confession to make here. We did not take this picture personally. For shots which were impossible for us amateurs to get (particularly the glorious interiors of dark churches and museums) we've used post cards and calendars. So, here's credit and our thanks to the several anonymous photographers who helped us bring so many beautiful memories back home.

We should also point out that we used the services of a licensed professional guide when visiting some of the sites and found it a sound investment. Information on the service is available at  http://www.tourservice.sp.ru
